Love & Carriage

Last night I positively revelled in my new activity of catching the train. Despite earlier protestations and the bubbly blister that formed on my ankle from sprinting down Glenferrie Road to catch my train....I'm warming to this whole "PT" thing. Yesterdays lovely Spring afternoon saw me linger a little longer at the shops contemplating Christmas shopping at Melbourne Central until the peak hour rush subsided. Peak hour at the station is a little akin to being swept out to sea on a tidal wave. People converge from every direction and in a focussed & uniform sweep (as if being guided to the mother ship) they move as one towards the platform. God forbid you wanting to change your mind and go against the crowd, or more embarassingly, your ticket not validating at the entry gates. When I was ready to go home, I was amazed at the calm on the platforms. I wasn't pushed, jostled or anything! And there he was...a John Cusack look alike in a black short sleeved top, listening to his ipod. It was love at first sight. Then we boarded the same train and I positioned myself so without looking at him directly, I could glimpse his reflection in the window (a trick I learned from a creepy bikie dude who did the same thing to me on the train last Friday night). So the John look alike then pulled out his laptop and was typing away. I dreamt in my head that he was some witty novelist that was just as entranced by me and to madly capture the details of when our eyes met. But then I came back to earth. It's always nice to have a healthy imagination.
It's funny how I seem to gravitate to the same type. Bookish, intellectual, emotionally tortured & mysterious looking. God bless ya John Cusack look alike. Maybe I'll develop some guts to sit next to him if we meet again.
