Foxtel. After spending the greater part of my week and weekend at the folks, glued to TV, I readily admit that I am smitten with Foxtel. Now I just have to convince my housemate to relinquish all social commitments and forms of exercise so that we can bond over the marvellous flickering images and knowledge that cable television can expose us to. I did happen to leave the house on several occassions over the weekend. Friday night was my cousins wedding which was at this lovely retreat outside Foxtel, I mean Healesville. The were married on a hillside overlooking the valley on this perfect warm day. A soaring eagle overhead added to the panorama of it all. The reception was then inside and was more like an intimate dinner party with flickering tea lights, green and white flower arrangements and decor with the glass doors thrown out to the balcony welcoming the warm summery breeze. However it was a time where I really missed my dear brother. As the sarcastic commentary that was going on in my head could not be shared and giggled over. Speaking of my brother, I was most disturbed by his phone call when we returned from the wedding. London is bleak, black and white with skeleton trees...and he is glum in a friendless and frustrating foreign place. I guess everyone goes through it when they make a sea change and experience that challenging period of adjustment which undermines the self-confidence. It's hard to hear though and feels like any form of reassurance does not help.
The rest of the weekend consisted of seeing 2 movies, Brokeback Mountain and Matchpoint. Both of which I enjoyed. I liked the Mountain, but don't really understand that hoopla over it. It's certainly a different subject matter and was well done, but is not going to haunt me. Match Point was indulgent and showy, also a bit long, but not particularly memorable. I still enjoyed the storyline. Particularly as it puts things into perspective about infidelity and how some men hide their wiley ways so well. Bit close to home perhaps. Our yum cha plans where whittled down from 6 participants to 3, but we still had fun. Labelled our "day of indulgence", my dear friends Gavin and Al then went on to embark on exploration of the Docklands. After scaling a fence in a dress and exploring unused wharfs, followed by more general consumption...we had a lovely stroll in what will probably be the last bastion of summer weather. And here we are on a Monday, and I'm faced with emails and loads of things to plan. It's depressing. I want to run away......
